LA Homes may conjure images of California but it is more likely you’ll find a lot of their work near another famous beach, Oakura, Taranaki.
Kurt Lines and Rob Aim, both in their mid forties have been “mates for donkey’s years” both building houses since they were fifteen. Their partnership was formed 10 years ago and the initial of each surname creates their brand LA Homes.
Kurt has lived and owned property in Oakura overthe years but presently resides in town where he has totally transformed a 50’s bungalow into a modern wonder - a fine example of his work. He lives there with his partner Danelle and their children, Connor who is 5 years old and Courtney who’s 3 years old.
Rob has lived in Oakura for six years after returning home from a stint in Australia. He lives with his partner Jo and sons, Tom 16, twins Ben and Jack 14 and Charlie 5.
Both men understand the building needs of growing families and create great homes that are loved by their owners.
They operate with a gang of ten and work extremely hard, with a reputation for working fast and delivering a quality product. They have excellent systems in place to ensure jobs run like clockwork.
They utilise Interior Designer, Megan Ekdahl, and preferred kitchen joiner, Elite Kitchens.
Architectural designer, Paul "Rusty" Rust enjoys doing work for LA Homes.
"They give me a free rein on the spec houses and are repared to go that bit extra for something different. They are hard workers and get stuck in bringing a good result for the client," says Paul.
Kurt also pays tribute to the excellent team of sub-contractors who regularly work with them.
A Homes built Westown’s new bar, West Bar, and when others thought they wouldn’t make the opening deadline, they "smoked it.".
Co-owner of West Bar, Kymon Hill says, "Generally for us West Bar was Mission Impossible. We were running out of building time. It was imperative we open before the All Blacks vs Ireland game. We opened four days before then. They were on time and to quote – exceptional! I can’t speak highly enough of them" .
Doc van Praagh, co-owner of Crowded House was impressed with their workmanship and the fact “you could see the progress! We were only closed for 11 days. They go the extra yard, are efficient and meet the deadline.”
Other evidence of L A Homes’ handiwork can be viewed at Tui Grove, a small cul de sac off Wairau Road, Oakura. They built five large spec houses.
Though while each home is unique their quality style is instantly recognisable – solid exterior cladding contrasting with Linea board, modern clean lines, properly finished with fencing and landscaping, plus good indoor outdoor connections.
“We enjoy what we do and take pride in our work. It might sound a cliché but we like to make our customers happy,” says Kurt.
